So you’re in a dark place, mentally.

Perhaps your depression has come back around in full force, reminding you of all the wrong turns you’ve made, of all the seemingly wrong things you’ve done and trying to convince you you’re worthless.

Maybe anxiety has resurfaced, holding you paralysed in fear, bringing you feelings of insecurity and having you stress about the vast consequences that lay ahead.

Well I’ll tell you now, whatever your mental health convinces you isn’t your truth. You aren’t what it says you are.

You have never made a wrong turn, you made the best decisions that you could with what you had available and from the the place you were in. You’re worth more than you could imagine. You’re powerful beyond measure, you’re stronger than you know and there’s nothing that you can’t surpass and overcome one way or another.

Depression and anxiety aren’t states of disease like we think of physical diseases. Although they’re sometimes very long-lasting, they are simply temporary states of mind that we’ve become accustomed to holding on to and created dominant psychological patterns – hence certain states are often seen psychologically as ‘disorder’.

Habitual patterns of thoughts causes us to continually feel certain emotions and these emotions are what drive our actions and although it may often seem like everything around us is completely disorderly as well, a huge part of it all comes down to our way of thinking; because everything is routed back to our thoughts and perspectives.

“You’re powerful beyond measure, you’re stronger than you know and there’s nothing that you can’t surpass one way or another.”

You’ve snapped out of a depression before...

and you’ve trampled over your fears as they’ve held you back…

and you can do it again. You will do it again. You’ll fight through this again. It is human nature to overcome challenges and survive…

Begin treating mental wounds like you would a physical would; by nurturing it, protecting it and keeping it clean from dirt or other unpleasantries.

That means caring for yourself, resting and eating healthily as much as you can, being kind and supportive to ourselves rather than cruel and critical, keeping ourselves away from anything that exemplifies the unpleasant feelings, whether it’s people, places or social media etc.

Mental health isn’t the unexplainable, untreatable conditions that we may tend to believe when we’re experiencing them, they’re the result of a psychological would we’ve continued to pick at, criticise ourself for and blame ourselves for. In other words, they’re wounds we continually poke at, whether consciously or not.

Try to begin treating your mental wounds like you would physical ones and watch how things  change. Nurture yourself, care for yourself and be kind to yourself.
